Pathways to Home Ownership
Our home ownership pathways work across general title and whenua Māori. We offer Licence to Occupy agreements for homes on Māori land, and Shared Ownership arrangements where making the journey to ownership more affordable is the goal.
Every project is different, so we don’t offer a one-size-fits-all solution. The right pathway depends on the land tenure, the project, and the readiness of the whānau involved. We work with Iwi, hapū, marae, and community groups to understand what each situation needs, then structure the approach to suit.

Shared Ownership
Shared Ownership is our primary pathway to home ownership. It is structured so that the cost of owning is set at a level whānau can genuinely afford.
Licence to Occupy
A Licence to Occupy (LTO) is a pathway for whānau who want to build or live on ancestral or Māori freehold land. This land may be collectively owned, or held by a trust or hapū.
Rent-to-Buy
Rent-to-Buy is a pathway we facilitate where Iwi, hapū, or marae are already landlords. It gives whānau more time to build financial readiness before stepping into ownership.
Financial Education Support
Kaenga Hou can connect whānau with financial education and capability wānanga to help build confidence, set goals, and get ready for home ownership.
If you are part of a community that is developing housing, we would love to hear from you.
