Rent to Buy

Rent-to-Buy is a pathway we facilitate where Iwi, hapū, or marae are already landlords. It gives whānau more time to build financial readiness before stepping into ownership.

Understanding the Pathway

Under a Rent to Buy arrangement, whānau rent a property from an existing landlord partner. This can be your Iwi, hapū, or marae.

Rent with a plan: Kaenga Hou supports whānau readiness and works alongside the landlord to plan the pathway to ownership. When the conditions are right, we work to source and structure the lending needed to support the transition.

Kaenga Hou’s role in a Rent to Buy arrangement is to:

  • Support whānau readiness throughout the process

  • Work with the landlord partner to agree the pathway to ownership

  • Source and structure the lending needed when conditions are right

  • Stay alongside whānau through to, and beyond, the transition to ownership
